Project Components

We conducted a nationwide survey to explore reading habits and intellectual engagement across Saudi society. The study collected quantitative and qualitative data on reading frequency, genres, motivations and barriers. Findings were analysed to craft targeted initiatives and policy recommendations aimed at fostering a reading culture and supporting a knowledge‑based society.

A. The Challenge

Policymakers lacked reliable data on reading behaviour, making it difficult to design effective programmes to encourage reading. Without understanding patterns and barriers, initiatives risked being misaligned with the community’s needs.

B. Our Solution

Our team designed and executed a large‑scale survey covering diverse demographics and regions. We analysed responses to identify trends, motivators and challenges. Recommendations were developed for programmes, campaigns and policy changes, and the insights were disseminated to stakeholders.

C. Key Achievements

The study produced the first comprehensive baseline on reading behaviour in Saudi Arabia. Its insights informed corporate and national initiatives, leading to new campaigns, reading competitions and digital resources. It strengthened collaboration between Aramco and cultural institutions.
